What would the world be without science? It’s a question Michael Lacey may have asked himself before he became the mathematician he is today. Lacey may have known a world free of mathematics is a void space. His famous scientific publications indicate he had the heart for science especially mathematics. He is among the few honored, celebrated, acclaimed, renowned, and distinguished mathematicians you would meet today. Any trial to summarize Lacey’s abilities and qualities would make you run short of descriptive adjectives. He didn’t pursue mathematics because it was the only available opportunity but because it was his childhood passion.
Lacey was born on September 26th, 1959. He went to Texas University, Austin for his undergraduate degree in Mathematics. As a passionate and avid mathematician, Lacey didn’t end his studies when he got his first degree. He pursued his career at the Illinois University and graduated with a Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1987. Mathematics has different fields one would specialize in based on their interests. Since Michael Lacey wanted to discover a profound solution in logarithmic and probability equations, he did a thesis in Banach spaces. Lacey’s thesis solved most of the Logarithm problems many students had struggled with in the past.
Taking a career in Mathematics would require one to be devoted to the course. The love Lacey had for mathematics is indescribable. His attitude to the discipline of mathematics is positive, and this has helped him to add unmatched content to this discipline. He has mentored many students who showed unquestionable passion and interest in mathematics in most of the institutions he has worked in so far. He has offered selfless and quality services to different universities such as North Carolina University, Louisiana State University, and also Indiana University. He has been a lecturer at the Georgia Institute of Technology since 1996. He has been an associate chair of this faculty and a senior professor in this institution.
While he was at the North Carolina University, he had to prove a concept. He did so by contributing a lot to the Central Limit Theorem. Sparse Bounds for Bochner is one of the many scientific journals Michael Lacey has published. His immense contribution to the world of mathematics has seen him receive prestigious awards such as Guggenheim Fellowship Award, Salem Prize, and postdoctoral fellowship of Science Education.
